Most employers ask for 35–50 WPM with high accuracy. Data-entry roles often want 60+ WPM. India's SSC government exams benchmark 35 WPM in English (30 WPM in Hindi). On our scale, 40–60 WPM at 94%+ accuracy earns an Intermediate certificate and 60–80 WPM earns Advanced.
Eight ranks, banded by net WPM with an accuracy floor: Novice, Beginner, Intermediate (40–60 WPM), Advanced (60–80), Expert (80–100), Elite (100–120), Competitive (120–160) and World-Class (160+). Sloppy speed is capped — 90 WPM at 95% accuracy ranks Intermediate, not Expert — so the certificate reflects real, controlled typing.
It is a skills certificate that documents your measured net WPM and accuracy on a timed passage — the same metrics employers and typing-certificate services report. Some government agencies and courts require a proctored, in-person test from a designated provider; check the specific requirement for the role you're applying to.
Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters: correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes elapsed. Errors reduce your score, which is why accuracy matters as much as raw speed.
