Typing Safari — Help Guide (Pro / Family)

Welcome to Typing Safari! This guide is for families on the Pro plan. It explains everything from two points of view:

• Part 1 — For Parents: create your account, set up your family, add your children, and watch their progress.
• Part 2 — For Children (the typing part): how a child signs in and uses every part of the app — lessons, practice, the speed test, games, custom text, and certificates.

What the Pro / Family plan gives you

• All 5 languages to type in — English, العربية (Arabic), Español, Deutsch, Français — and all key rows (home, top, bottom, shift/capitals, numbers, symbols), not just the free home row.
• All games (the free plan includes only two).
• A family roster of up to 6 people, so each child has their own progress, reports, and certificates.
• Shared "Station" mode, so children type on a shared device (home computer or tablet) by tapping their name — no email or separate logins for kids.
• Custom text practice, family analytics, and certificates.

Part 1 — For Parents

1.1 Create your account

1. Go to the site and choose Sign up.
2. Enter your Name, a Username (3–24 letters/numbers — this is what shows on leaderboards), your Email, and a Password (at least 8 characters).
3. Tick the box confirming you're 13 or older, or a parent/guardian creating the account for a child.
4. Complete the quick "I'm not a robot" check and select Create account.
5. Confirm your email: open the email from Typing Safari and click the link. (If you'd rather, you can use Continue with Google on the sign-up/login screen and skip the password + email confirmation — Google verifies your email for you.)
6. You're in. You'll land on your Dashboard page (or Lessons if you haven't made a family yet).

Signing in later: choose Sign in, enter your email and password, complete the robot check, and select Sign in. Forgot your password? Use Forgot password? to get a reset link by email.

Your account is the parent/owner account. Your children do not sign up — you add them to your family roster (next section), and they sign in by tapping their name on a shared device.

1.2 Create your family

1. Open the Dashboard page (the "Dashboard" item in the menu).
2. Select Create your family.
3. Give it a name (e.g., "The Smiths") and select Create.
4. Your family appears in Your dashboard and opens its management card below.

Your family has up to 6 seats. Seats are shared by everyone who occupies one — that includes you (the parent) and each child you add. You'll see a live "X of 6 used" / "seats available" indicator.

1.3 Add your children

In your family's card, open the Add a student section. You have two ways:

Add one at a time

1. Enter the child's Name (required). An ID is optional.
2. Select Add student.

Add several at once (import a list)

1. Open the Import section.
2. Upload a CSV file (or paste rows). A simple file with a name column (and optionally id) works; spreadsheet exports are accepted too.
3. Review the preview and confirm. The import won't let you go over your 6 seats.

Each child you add appears in the Students list, where you can Edit their name, Set / Clear a PIN, Deactivate (hide them but keep their history), or Delete them.

1.4 Seat policy

Important — read before managing your roster:

• A seat is held by you (the parent) and by every child that exists — active or deactivated. Deactivating a child hides them but keeps their seat.
• Only deleting a child frees their seat.
• Reactivating a deactivated child needs no new seat.

To free a seat for a new child, use Delete on the old entry — not Deactivate.

1.5 PINs and login cards (how kids will sign in)

• PIN (optional but recommended): select Set PIN on a child's row to give them a 4–6 digit code. With a PIN, only that child can open their own profile on the shared device.
• Join code: your family has a short code (e.g., SMITH7) shown in the card. Children use it once to connect a device.
• Print login cards: select Print login cards to generate a printable card per child with their name, the join code, and (if set) their PIN — handy to hand to each child.

1.6 Turn a device into a "Station" (for children)

On any shared device the children will use:

1. Open the Station page (or select Open the station on this device from your family card).
2. Enter your family's join code once.
3. From then on, that device shows the "Who's typing?" screen, where each child taps their name to start. (Tick "This is my own device — remember me" so the device stays connected between uses.)

You can also just give children the join code and have them open the Station page on their own device.

1.7 Watch their progress

Family analytics — select Family analytics from your family card (or Manage from the Dashboard). You'll see:

• WPM (words-per-minute), accuracy, and typing-time trends over time.
• A per-child table: best WPM, average WPM, accuracy, number of sessions, total time, and when each child was last active.
• Select a child's row to drill down into that child's own trend, and Export CSV to download the whole table.
• Filter by language (and switch the time grain) at the top.

Progress (your own dashboard) — your own at-a-glance progress (keys unlocked/mastered, best/avg WPM, accuracy, sessions), your trend charts, a key-mastery heatmap, your certificates, and a shortcut to your family.

1.8 Manage your plan, profile, and settings

• Subscription: view your current plan, what it unlocks, and Manage billing (renew, update card, or cancel) via the secure billing portal.
• Pricing: compare Free vs Pro vs School/Camp.
• Settings: your username and display name, leaderboard visibility (Settings → "Show me on the leaderboard"), and the website (UI) language.

Part 2 — For Children: the typing part

This is the heart of Typing Safari. A child does not need an email or password — they tap their name on a shared device and start learning.

2.1 Signing in (a child's first minutes)

1. On the shared device, the child sees "Who's typing?" (or, the very first time, an "Enter your class code" screen — type the family join code once).
2. Tap your name in the list. (Use the search box if the list is long.)
3. If your name has a lock, type your PIN.
4. You're in! You'll land on Lessons.

A small bar shows your name while you type. From it you can switch your typing language, open My report, and Log out when you're done so the next person can tap their own name.

2.2 First-time keyboard setup

The very first time (or when you switch to a new language), Typing Safari helps match the on-screen keyboard to your real one:

1. Pick your typing language — English, العربية, Español, Deutsch, or Français.
2. Confirm your keyboard — the app suggests your layout (e.g., US QWERTY). You can accept it or pick another.
3. Calibrate (4 keys) — tap a few keys (like F, J, D, K) so the app knows your exact layout. This matters most for Arabic and other non-English keyboards.

Typing a different script (e.g., Arabic on an English keyboard)? Turn on the dual-label option on the practice screen to show both the on-screen letter and the key printed on your real keyboard (e.g., "ش / a"), so you always know which key to press.

2.3 Lessons — how you learn to type

Open Lessons. Your journey is split into rows, each shown as a section with its own progress:

• Home row → Top row → Bottom row → Capitals & Shift → Numbers → Symbols.

How it works:

• Each section has several lessons; each lesson has 5 short sets.
• A lesson shows the keys it teaches (e.g., F · J · D · K) and its status: current, done, or locked.
• Lessons unlock in order — finish the current one to open the next. You can always replay an earlier lesson.
• Your furthest progress is saved to your account, so it follows you to any device.

Tap a lesson to open the Practice screen.

2.4 The Practice screen — typing, step by step

1. Get ready: pick your language/lesson if asked, then select Start Typing. (For the first lessons there's a finger hint showing where to place your hands.)
2. Type the words shown. As you type:
   • Live WPM and accuracy update at the top.
   • The on-screen keyboard lights up: grey = not learned yet, highlighted = the keys you're learning, green = keys you've mastered.
   • Correct letters and mistakes are shown as you go, so you can self-correct.
3. Finish a set, and the next set starts automatically (you'll see Set 2 of 5, and so on).
4. Focus mode: hide everything except the words and keyboard for distraction-free practice; it exits automatically when you finish.

Caps Lock warning: if Caps Lock is accidentally on, a clear warning appears so you're not fighting your keyboard.

2.5 Finishing a lesson (and "weak spots")

• Complete all 5 sets and the next lesson unlocks automatically.
• If a few keys or letter-pairs are tripping you up, Typing Safari may offer a short "drill your weak spots" review focused on exactly those — a great way to level up quickly. You can take it or skip it.
• You can always select Practice again to repeat a lesson with a fresh mix of words.

2.6 Languages

On Pro/Family you can type in all five languages. Switch your typing language from the small bar while signed in (or from the practice screen). Arabic types right-to-left, and each language uses its proper keyboard (QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ, or Arabic layouts) with a curriculum to match.

The website language (menus and buttons) can be changed separately from the globe menu — it doesn't have to match the language you're typing in.

2.7 Speed Test & Certificates

Speed Test measures your real typing speed:

1. It unlocks after you clear a few lessons (you'll see your progress toward it).
2. Open Speed test, pick a duration (1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes), and select Start.
3. Type the passage at your own pace — you'll see a timer, live Net WPM, and accuracy.
4. At the end you get your Gross WPM, Net WPM, accuracy, and a medal tier (Bronze → Platinum).

Certificates: a qualifying speed test earns a certificate in your name. View it on the Certificate page, and find all of them in Certificates — each can be downloaded or shared. (After a few lessons you'll get a one-time nudge to take the speed test and earn your first one.)

2.8 Custom Text — practice anything you like

Open Custom:

1. Paste your own text (a poem, an article, a paragraph), Upload a .txt file, or select Generate to create a sample.
2. Use the language dropdown next to Generate to make the sample in any of the five languages (Arabic shows right-to-left).
3. Select Start and type it just like a lesson, with live WPM/accuracy and a progress bar.

Custom text is checked to keep it kid-friendly. There's a generous length limit so you can practice a whole passage.

2.9 Games — practice while you play

Open Games. On Pro/Family all games are unlocked:

• Balloon Burst — pop balloons (also free).
• Forest Run — collect fruit, dodge beasts (also free).
• Bubble Gunner, Astrofall, Chase Patrol, Bullion.

The games drill the same keys you're learning, so they grow with your lessons.

2.10 My report, switching, and logging out

• My report: open it from your name bar to see your own progress — WPM/accuracy trends, your streak, and a breakdown by key row. (Only your own data — never another child's.)
• Switch language: change your typing language from the same bar.
• Log out: select Log out when you're finished so the next person can tap their name. The app also logs out automatically after a period of inactivity on shared devices.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

• My child's code doesn't work. Double-check the join code on your family card (it's not case-sensitive). Re-print login cards if needed.
• A child sees the wrong progress / someone else's data. Make sure each child taps their own name (and uses their PIN) and logs out when done. Each child's progress is tied to their own name.
• "Sign in again" or can't sign out (parent). Sign out fully and sign back in; if it persists, try a private/incognito window once to clear an old session.
• The on-screen keyboard doesn't match my real keyboard. Re-run keyboard setup (pick your language → confirm layout → calibrate the 4 keys), and turn on dual-label when typing a different script.
• Speed test is locked. Clear a few lessons first — you'll see your progress toward unlocking it.
• A result didn't save / no certificate appeared. Make sure you're signed in (not a guest) and finished the full speed test; if a save fails you'll now see a message saying so.
• I hit my seat limit. A family includes 6 seats total. Deactivating a child does not free their seat — only deleting does. Delete an old entry to make room, or upgrade to a School/Camp plan for a larger roster.
